TangoTang was set up to develop tango in Hong Kong. Fifteen years later, tango is thriving here, with a host of organisers, teachers, DJs and others offering milongas, workshops and other tango activities.
To reflect this reality, TangoTang is reinventing itself as an organiser of occasional – but, we hope very special –events.
To reflect this new role, we are lowering our annual membership fee to just $100. We hope you’ll all become members.
To join, send an email to [email protected] and we'll send you a form.
For those of you wondering whether it’s worth paying $100 to become a member – here’s why we think it’s a bargain.
Hong Kong has a lot of regular tango activities – milongas, classes – and plenty of organisers bringing dancers from Argentina to teach and perform.
But there will always be room for other activities and events. So here’s where we’ll be focusing our efforts for the foreseeable future.
1. Special events – we’ve already run three festivals, and we hope we can do more in the future. But for now, that means doing one-off events such as our week with Carlos Rivarola & Gladys Fernandez.
2. Gateway to tango – many people in Hong Kong got their first taste of tango through TangoTang. Now, there are many excellent teachers. But we still hope to offer ways of expanding the tango community by giving people a way to discover tango.
3. Community resource – TangoTang’s mandate is to develop tango in Hong Kong. We will do this by supporting tango in all its various forms and by all organisers.
